Born 1984, Melbourne, Australia
Tanya Dyhin's current work is concerned with the documentation and survey of objects embedded within the Australian landscape which form part of a rich cultural identity. Currently based in Melbourne, the first part of Dyhin's series examines rural and regional areas of Victoria.
Dyhin's series Sites of Accumulation (2008), engages with ideas of perception and illusion, visualising light in photographic form. In an investigation of place, Dyhin's work translates as accumulations of time, matter, light, and spirit. Responding to the visualisation of light in religious iconography and in scientific imagery, Sites of Accumulation challenges the observer's perception of reality and the validity of the photograph as referent of a reality.
Dyhin's work reflects an engagement with questions of ideology and religion, within the construct of photo media based works. Her most recent work follows investigations of the decisive moment, memory and narrative within the photograph (2006-2007). Dyhin's interest in the representations of light, both daylight and nightlight continues to translate through much of her work.
